Getting into the Christmas Spirit
It’s that time of year again, and at Amberley Care Home, there have been a variety of activities on offer to help residents get into the Christmas spirit.
We're all feeling festive at Amberley Care Home in Sale, with lots of activities and events taking place in and out of the home.
Christmas time can evoke many happy and special memories for our residents; from moments shared with family to their very own life-long traditions. We believe it is essential to enable residents to continue with their traditions, which is important to them as well as an important part of reminiscence.
Christmas Crafts
Our arts and crafts sessions have had a festive twist this month, and one activity that was a big hit was Christmas card making. Residents got their creative hats on and made cards to give to their families.
One family member was so pleased, she cried when her Mum presented her with the card that she had made especially for her.
Arts and crafts is a fantastic activity that brings people together to socialise, helps stimulate the mind, and gives an incredible sense of purpose. It was so lovely to see residents take pride in their creations and the joy that they brought them when giving them to their loved ones.
Celebrating Together
Christmas is a time for indulging in food and drink, and our kitchen team has worked up some festive delights for our residents this month. It is also the season for celebrating, which is why we brought residents together one cold December evening to enjoy a Christmas tipple.
Taking into consideration everyone's preferences and medical guidance, residents were offered either an alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage to enjoy. It was lovely for all the residents to get together and share a drink, a laugh, and exchange Christmas memories and stories.
Community Kindness
Everyone at Amberley Care Home would like to give a huge thank you to Dunelm which is located in teh nearby market town of Altrincham.
We are blown away by the kindness of the staff and customers who have donated wonderful gifts for all our residents. It will make Christmas day truly special for them and we can't wait to see their faces when they open their gifts.
Music Therapy with a Christmas Twist
Our music therapy group held by Nordoff Robins has continued every Tuesday afternoon throughout the month of December with some sessions having a festive spin on them, seeing residents playing instruments such as tambourines and shakers to Christmas music.
This activity is so impactful for the residents at Amberley Care Home, as it is accessible to everyone and can be held for groups in the communal areas or as 1:1 sessions in our resident's rooms. Everyone is invited to join including residents, family members, friends, and staff.
The sessions are designed to enable residents to make music, and memories, have fun and connect with each other. Music as well as singing and dancing helps with coordination, had a positive effect on mental health, and also brings feelings of joy and happy memories to those living with dementia. We look forward to continuing with our music therapy next year.
We've all had so much fun together over the last few weeks, and we still have the big day yet to come as well as lots more festivities. We look forward to seeing many of you over the Chrismas period and into the new year.
From all of us at Amberley Care Home in Sale, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
