October Celebrations at Amberley

October has been a month filled with connection, reflection and celebration here at Amberley. As we marked both Heritage Month and World Mental Health Day, our home was alive with conversation and shared memories, reminding us of the deep sense of community that runs through everything we do.

Throughout the month, our Activities Lead, Joe, brought creativity and energy to each day. What began as a simple idea grew into something truly meaningful, as Joe’s enthusiasm turned into a series of engaging activities and thought-provoking moments for our residents. These experiences were shaped wholly around our residents and their needs, reminding us all of the importance of connection and appreciation.

World Mental Health Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to pause and focus on well-being, which is something that we value every day. The home was filled with reflection and gentle activities designed to bring people together. It was a day that encouraged openness and reminded us of the strength that comes from community and understanding.

Later in the month, on 17th October, we came together for our Heritage Day celebration. The day brought the richness of our shared histories to life through music, dance, food and storytelling. Residents shared vivid memories from their younger years, including stories of the war, the sound of sirens, the reality of food rationing and the resilience of the people who carried communities through difficult times. These stories gave everyone a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come and how much we have to be grateful for.

We also had the joy of welcoming children from Park Road Primary School, who brought with them homemade cakes and laughter. Their visit filled our lounges with warmth and energy, creating a truly memorable experience for everyone. The children’s performances on the piano and their singing created a beautiful bridge between generations, showing just how much joy can come from simple acts of kindness and shared moments.

As Heritage Month drew to a close, we found ourselves reflecting on our care approach, with our residents being at the heart of everything we do. We strive to provide a holistic care service to each individual who resides with us and encourage them to share their story so we can support them with continuing what they love most.
