Our Music Therapy Sessions at Amberley

Residents at Amberley recently enjoyed another uplifting day of music therapy, which is a much-loved part of life within the home. These sessions provide a gentle and meaningful way for residents to express themselves, connect with others and enjoy the comfort that familiar music can bring.
We are proud to offer regular music therapy here at Amberley as part of our activities programme, as it allows residents to experience music in a way that is personal and supportive. Our wonderful music therapist Debbie brings warmth and patience to every visit and helps residents feel relaxed and encouraged to take part in a way that feels right for them.
A typical music therapy morning begins with one-to-one sessions where Debbie spends individual time with residents in a place they feel most comfortable. These quieter moments allow each person to enjoy music in their own way. Some residents enjoy singing along to familiar songs, while others prefer to listen, tap along to the rhythm or simply share memories that a particular melody brings back. For many people, music can unlock emotions and memories that are difficult to express in words, and it is always touching to see how these sessions allow residents to reconnect with special moments from their lives.
In the afternoon, the atmosphere becomes more lively as Debbie leads a group music session. Residents gather together in one of our communal spaces where everyone is encouraged to join in. There is always plenty of laughter and smiles as favourite songs fill the room. Our team are always on hand to support residents so that everyone can take part comfortably and confidently.

These group sessions are a wonderful opportunity for residents to enjoy time together. Music has a unique way of bringing people closer, helping to build friendships and create a sense of belonging within our home. Singing together often lifts the mood of the whole room, and it is lovely to see residents sharing memories and encouraging one another.
Music therapy plays an important role in supporting emotional well-being and confidence. At Amberley, we see firsthand how these sessions can brighten a resident’s day and provide comfort, particularly for those living with dementia or who may find it difficult to communicate in other ways. Debbie’s visits have quickly become a highlight in the weekly calendar and something many residents look forward to.
Creating moments of joy and connection is at the heart of everything we do at Amberley. Music therapy is just one of the many ways we support residents to live fulfilling and meaningful lives in a warm and caring environment. If you would like to learn more about life at Amberley or arrange a visit to meet our team, we would be delighted to welcome you.
