Music Therapy at Amberley

Residents playing an electronic keyboard

Our activities team at Amberley Care Home are always looking for ways to encourage residents to get involved and have a happy and healthy lifestyle. We've implemented Music Therapy, through a weekly music session bringing residents together.

We've split this day into two sections, a morning session where residents can have a more one-on-one experience, using an array of instruments and the opportunity to learn a variety of songs and express creativity through sound. And then an afternoon session where residents can come together and enjoy a session playing their favourite songs.

This activity brings our residents together and allows residents to play a variety of musical instruments, ranging from drums and piano, whereas others prefer to sing. Choosing to play a variety of different songs, this is a great opportunity for our residents to reminisce about familiar favourites.

A person-centred activity, which not only brings our team and residents together but provides an opportunity for family members to get involved as well, who we can often find at our piano, playing a range of classic piano hits.

The Importance of Music Therapy

Music therapy is proven within Dementia Care to support the wellbeing of residents. By reducing stress and inspiring reminiscence, social activity and improving cognitive activity. All of which are essential when living with dementia, to ensure a sense of identity and exploring positive memories.

These musical sessions provide great mental and physical stimulation as well as promoting social wellbeing, with a session where our residents were able to get creative with their existing and newly learned musical skills.

It is important that our activities team can provide a variety of activities, that will both keep our residents entertained, but also support them and their care needs, ensuring a happy and healthy environment here at Amberley Care Home. We're always looking for new opportunities to create engaging and fun activities for our residents and will always cater to resident's requests. If you would like to find out more about how we can meet your care requirements and support your loved ones with a varied activities programme, then we welcome you to book a tour or get in contact with our friendly team.
